What Are Qantas Points Worth? The Complete Value Guide

The short answer: a Qantas Point is worth between 0.4 cents AUD and 4.0+ cents AUD, depending on how you redeem it. That's a 10× difference between the worst and best redemptions — and most members are leaving significant value on the table.

This guide calculates the cents-per-point (CPP) value for every redemption category so you can see exactly what your balance is worth before spending a single point.

Use our points value calculator to instantly calculate the AUD value of your Qantas Points balance.

What Is Cents Per Point (CPP)?

Cents per point (CPP) is the standard measure of Qantas Points value, calculated as:

CPP = (Cash price of the redemption ÷ Points required) × 100

Example: A Business Class flight Sydney to London (SYD→LHR) costs approximately $6,000–$8,000 AUD as a cash fare. The Classic Flight Reward costs 144,000 points one-way.

CPP = ($7,000 ÷ 144,000) × 100 = 4.86 cents per point — exceptional value.

Compare that to a Qantas Store redemption where 10,000 points buys a $50 item: CPP = ($50 ÷ 10,000) × 100 = 0.5 cents per point — poor value. Same points, nearly 10× the difference in real-world value.

Classic Flight Rewards vs Classic Plus — How Value Differs

Classic Flight Rewards have a fixed points price regardless of when you book or how popular the flight is. This is where the best value lives — CPP regularly exceeds 2.0c and can hit 4.0–5.0c on premium international cabins.

Classic Plus Flight Rewardsare dynamically priced, like cash fares. They fluctuate with demand. The published redemption rate is approximately 1.0c per point for Economy and 1.5c per point for Business and First — meaning they're always priced below Points Plus Pay but usually above Classic Flight Rewards.

Classic Plus exists to solve the availability problem. Classic Flight Rewards are better value but limited in seat count. Classic Plus gives you far more seats at slightly worse value. The right choice depends on whether Classic Flight Rewards are available on your dates.

Best Value Redemptions in Detail

International Business Class: The Sweet Spot

SYD → London return in Business Class is a Classic Flight Reward for 288,000 points (144,000 each way). The same trip in cash typically costs $10,000–$14,000 AUD.

per point — Business Class SYD→LHR

vs 0.5c for gift cards. The same 288,000 points.

Classic Upgrade Rewards: Underrated Value

Upgrading a purchased Flex Economy ticket to Business on SYD→LHR costs 72,000 points (one-way). The upgrade cost in cash — if you'd bought Business Class outright — is typically $2,500–$4,000 more.

At $3,000 cash value vs 72,000 points: CPP = 4.17c— identical to booking a full Classic Reward, but you're only paying the gap.

Partner Airline Premium Cabins: Hidden Gems

Cathay Pacific First Class booked on Qantas Points delivers among the highest CPP available. Japan Airlines Business Class on Qantas Points offers consistently excellent availability and value. These are not widely known and represent some of the program's best opportunities.

What Not to Do With Your Points

Redeeming Qantas Points for gift cards gives you approximately 0.4–0.5 cents per point. The same points redeemed for a Business Class flight are worth 4–8× more. If you have 50,000 points, they're worth $200–$250 in gift cards — or $2,000+ in Business Class value.

Never redeem for:

1

Gift cards

One of the lowest yield options available — represents direct loss of value.

0.4 – 0.5¢ CPP
2

Qantas Store merchandise

Buying physical items or tech through Qantas Store is extremely low value.

0.4 – 0.6¢ CPP
3

Low-rate hotels & car hire

Standard redemptions are low value unless booked at high-value boutique properties.

0.4 – 0.8¢ CPP
4

Points Plus Pay on cheap Economy

A compromise that converts points at a very poor rate.

0.5 – 0.6¢ CPP

How to Calculate What Your Points Balance Is Worth

Formula: AUD Value = (Points Balance × Cents Per Point) ÷ 100

Multiplying your points balance by the cents-per-point (CPP) rate of your chosen redemption is the most accurate way to find the real-world dollar value of your points. Below is a worked example for a balance of **200,000 points**:

Gift Card RatesLow CPP Value (0.5c)$1,000 AUD
Domestic EconomyAverage CPP Value (0.8c)$1,600 AUD
International BusinessHigh CPP Value (3.0c)$6,000 AUD

Has Qantas Points Value Changed Lately?

The Classic Flight Reward pricing table hasn't changed since 2019 — a rarity in an industry that devalues frequently. However, the introduction of Classic Plus in 2024 created a new middle tier that some members default to without realising Classic seats might be available at better value.

The retirement of Points Club from late 2026 removes one pathway to Status Credits on reward bookings. This doesn't affect points earn or redemption value directly, but members who relied on Points Club SC earning from award flights will need to adjust their strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about this topic

Between $400 and $4,500+ depending on how you use them. Redeemed for gift cards: approximately $400–$500. Redeemed for domestic flights: $600–$900. Redeemed for an international Business Class Classic Flight Reward: $1,500–$4,500 AUD equivalent. Always compare the CPP before redeeming.
International Business Class or First Class Classic Flight Rewards consistently deliver the highest value at 2.0–5.0 cents per point. Classic Upgrade Rewards on long-haul routes are equally strong. Both significantly outperform any non-flight redemption option, including hotel stays, gift cards, and merchandise.
No — Qantas doesn't allow direct cash conversion. You can calculate the equivalent cash value by multiplying your balance by the CPP of your intended redemption. Use our free points value calculator to see your balance's AUD equivalent across all redemption types simultaneously.
Classic Plus typically delivers around 1.0–1.5 cents per point, which is better than Points Plus Pay or merchandise redemptions, but lower than Classic Flight Rewards on premium routes. Classic Plus is a reasonable choice when Classic Flight Reward seats are not available for your preferred dates.
Hotel rewards typically yield 0.5–0.8 cents per point — significantly below what you would get from a flight redemption. Unless you cannot use points on flights, hotel redemptions are generally not recommended. The same points will deliver 2–6× more value redeemed on Business Class flights.
